Reps for That or WWBKD?

I just ran across this YT video that was such a perfect blend of factual info and snarkilicious Brian Kinney tongue in cheekiness, I thought I'd post it here for all to enjoy. (or at the least the one or two of you that might read this).

Better hurry, 'cause I figure Apple will have it removed pretty soon, just sayin...

It's About Death

just watched the most powerful piece of advocacy journalism I've ever seen on MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann on the subject of health care reform in this country.

I am by nature a political creature and I know myself well enough to believe I would feel as passionately about the "
Murder by Spreadsheet
" industry (health insurance corporations) blatant purchase of our elected representatives even if I wasn't personally affected. But I am personally affected. Unfortunately I have been without any health care for the last 14 months, ever since I lost my job. (Now you know why I have so much time to indulge my QaF/Chrolli addictions).

I don't intend to go into details of my personal health situation but it's not great and when my unemployment runs out for good, I will most likely lose my home. The bank I used to work for when I got my mortgage will still expect payments, even though their bad actions are what caused my unemployment to begin with. Irony much? Of course, once I'm truly homeless, then I might be eligible for Medicaid, maybe.

I sincerely hope all who read this are not caught up in a similar situation and you all have access to health care without bankrupting yourselves.

I am urging you all to take a few minutes to view all five clips of Keith's brilliant show. There will be a push to provide health care clinics in a few states where several US Senators are in the back pockets of the health insurance companies to help convince them to vote for truly meaningful reform. I will post again as soon as the details are fleshed out about what we can do to help with this effort.

The Public Option is the Only Option!

I am going to tell you why I have so much time to devote to my two fandoms of QaF and Chrolli.

I have been unemployed since last August. Yes you read that right, over a year now. I was one of the many caught in the mortgage meltdown when my bank office was closed.

I took that time last fall to volunteer for the election of Barack Obama as our next President, and literally cried tears of joy when he gave his acceptance speech. After 8 years of GBW and Darth Cheney, I had such overwhelming hope for our country.

I'm getting pretty close to tears these days too, but not with hope, more like disappointment and.despair over what is happening with the health insurance reform debate going on right now. It's really not a debate, actually it's the usual corporate and media powers that be using their stranglehold on 'We the People' to misinform and scare and deliberately lie to achieve their end of putting the money in the hands of the folks who already have it all.

This is very personal for me, I have not dared to risk a doctor's visit even though I'm having some major health concerns. I don't need to go into details, but I'm sure you are all aware what happens to people with pre-existing conditions trying to buy health insurance. Even if (which I don't) could afford what junk insurance options are available, it would putting money in the coffers of the health insurance with NO guarantee that my claims would be paid.

The point of this post is urge those of you that feel the same to take some action to let President Obama to keep his promise. If you worked for and or donated for his election please send an email to: info@barackobama.com. It will let him know that those of us that worked for and supported him, are now holding him accountable for his promises.

Here is a link to a terrific DailyKos post urging us to follow through, please read it:

Here's another link to a post by MIchael Moore in the release of his new movie, which goes to heart of what's really wrong with our system:

I hope you don't mind this venture into the real world,, but I urge every one of you without insurance or those of you who know someone suffering needlessly to take action!

Without a robust and strong Public Option, we will merely be handing over 47 million more souls into the 'MURDER BY SPREADSHEET' industry, with OUR tax dollars. They are rubbing their hands in glee...

I Came for the Queer, I Stayed for the B/J

* This is from my LJ journal and posted in honor of my first QaF community viewing.

Starting today at
qaf_rewind
we will be watching and commenting on the best TV series ever! I'm so excited, this will be my first time participating in something like this so I thought I'd write a brief note about how I discovered QaF.

I only discovered QaF late last year, (btw I’m a boomer, ex-DFH, divorced hetero female). As a new member of Netflix, I rented Brokeback Mountain on Oct 30, 2008. Little did I know that a movie could affect me so profoundly? In addition to the moving love story, I found myself erotically drawn to the vision of two men expressing romantic and sexual feelings for one another.

Who knew? It was an epiphany for me! Prior to that I could never understand why my ex-husband liked pr0n with two women getting it on, all of a sudden I got it! LOL, if I was still speaking to him I’d tell him, “I finally get it, okay?”

Anyway, I searched the web for more BBM info, which led to vanvids, which eventually landed me in QaFworld on YouTube and my life hasn’t been the same since.

The quality of the YT videos wasn’t great and all of season one wasn’t available, but after watching Brian/Gale walk out of Babylon and Justin/Randy walk up to that streetlamp, the ramp shots of both of them and Michael/Hal’s voice over, “…and then HE came along”, I was hooked but good and as it turns out, “in a positive life affirming way”. :D

I bought the entire series set from eBay and I have lost track of how many times I’ve watched 101. From the minute Justin takes a deep breath and closes that loft door, the unbelievable chemistry those two had with one another in their initial ‘coming or going’ scene is seared in my mind forever. The actual deflowering of Justin was another epiphany; I had no idea that men made love face to face. (I’m embarrassed to admit I thought they could only do it doggy style).

For me, from 101 on, QaF was always about Brian and Justin's story, all the rest of the folks are just an added bonus. So to paraphrase the wonderful Peter Paige, “I came for the queer; I stayed for the B/J.”

*I apologize if it's not okay to crosspost between LJ & IJ,just let me know in the comments and I will delete.
